The Animals
-
Mouse patrol
ButtonWren and Lancelot strike fear into the hearts of any mice daring to call the barn home. We hope.
-
Pekin ducks
ButtonGood egg layers but mostly they make us happy hanging around the barn and traveling everywhere together in a nice orderly row.
-
Kunekune sows
ButtonKunekune pigs are a native species of New Zealand, noted for their upturned snouts and can be pasture raised. They are phenomenally social animals, if not a little demanding at meal time. These girls are our foundation animals for a growing swine.
-
Chickens - everywhere!
ButtonDucks in a row? We can get our chickens in a circle! We have 6 flocks of hens who all free range, with over a dozen different varieties represented. Delicious multi-colored eggs.
-
The big boys
ButtonBeggar, dressed in white, is a retired school horse and has been the first horse ridden for many, many kids. Bubba is a retired racehorse who is still capable of some get up and go. Both enjoy a quieter life on pasture now but enjoy the occassional ride.
-
French Guineas
ButtonWhile perhaps not natures most gifted creatures, these guys work hard. They move up and down the farm searching for bugs and ticks in the pasture, and have a knack of arriving at each chicken coop right at feeding time.
-
Kunekune boys
ButtonBuckridge is our boar and Sawyer is his barrow buddy. These guys love attention and know that manners are important at meal time. They'll show off their tusks for a leafy treat.
-
Life's a Mare
ButtonMeet Breezy and Ella, our two mares. They're both retired school horses. Breezy is a chestnut curly and Ella an American Quarter Horse Paint.
-
Organic bush hogs
ButtonMeet Arnold Palmer and Richie McCaw - two GOATS; but specifically our Nigerian Dwarf Goats. Funny guys who like attention but get easily distracted play fighting.
-
Turkeys
ButtonThis is Cole [Slaw], our Heritage Bronze Turkey, showing off for his ladies. They're never far behind wherever you go on the farm; except in November. Not sure why they hide then.
-
Miniature horses
ButtonThis is Evie (right) and her daughter Daisy. They came to us from a neighbor in 2023. They're about 3' at full stretch but stare longingly at Bubba the thoroughbred.
Kunekune Piglets
Lucy had the farm's first litter on June 28th. 9 new hungry wriggle worms to feed is a big job for a new momma. Amazing set of colors between her and proud dad, Buckridge.
Brody
Brody is our English Springer Spaniel and highly offended he's on the Fauna page because he knows he's family. He's Kylee's constant companion and overseer. Despite his advancing years he valiantly keeps us safe from deer attacks - if he thinks we're watching.
Nature's hardest workers
Despite what Grant (the beekeeper) says the caption is all about the honeybees. They're amazing animals and only get more interesting the more you learn. Fresh honey isn't too bad either.
